Cathedral Christian School

Mission

Legacy Christian Academy provides a college preparatory culture of educational excellence wherein young men and women are trained spiritually, academically, physically, and artistically to reach their God-given destinies.

Friends of Legacy Christian Academy is an organization formed to bring about greater parent participation and a closer relationship between the home and the school. Throughout the year, Friends sponsors many enjoyable events that promote strong ties between school and family.

All parents are considered members of Friends and are encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible. It is the Friends' hope and prayer that this network will provide an avenue in which each parent can share his or her gifts and serve where he or she is needed.

Summary of Oct. 9th
Friends of Legacy Meeting

We gathered in the library from 7:50 - 8:45 a.m. and enjoyed light refreshments while we heard from the following speakers:

· Mr. Arceneaux - He discussed mandatory enrichment and the progress it is making in bringing students’ grades up. Also, he told us that after the 1st quarter grades, renweb will not be zeroed out where students start over with no grades. Instead, renweb will continue to reflect the grades from the first quarter so students will have a better idea of their grade in relation to their semester average. Since only semester averages are sent to colleges, this will help students stay aware of where they stand in regard to semester averages. Mr. Arceneaux was asked what kind of music would be played at the Homecoming Dance, and he said students were giving him lists of songs they wanted played and he would approve only those songs that adhere to the values of the school. No songs with inappropriate lyrics will be played. Although parents will not chaperone the dance, there will be ample teachers there to chaperone.

· Karen Collins – I introduced the Friends of Legacy Executive Board: President – Karen Collins; Vice-Pres. – Carol Smith; Treasurer – Toni Straughter; Secretary – Shelley Blevins. We have 87 families so far who have paid dues and joined Friends of Legacy. Parents can still join this parent association by filling out a form in the office and paying $15.00. Directories have been printed and were distributed at the meeting. If you have joined Friends of Legacy, you may pick up your directory in the office from Charlotte.

· Kim Dennis (7th grade level rep) – Nov. 3rd there will be a bonfire and hayride at the home of Rodney Barnett in Lumberton. We will leave from Legacy and hopefully use the Warrior bus – if not, parent drivers may be necessary.

Nov. 16th is Silly Socks and Hat Day. Nov. 1st – 16th is the food drive, and 7th graders are asked to bring boxed pie crust mixes, fruit pie fillings and canned pumpkin. 7th grade will participate in the Homecoming dress-up days:

- Monday is Twin Day

- Tuesday is Blast from the Past

- Wed. is Camo Day

- Thurs. is Green and Gold Day

- Friday is PJ Day

· Terri Sparks (8th grade level rep) – Field trip is Friday from 6:45 a.m. –9:00 p.m. There is an 8th Grade Banquet coming up in May. Volunteer opportunities will be available for parents.

· Deborah Brooks (9th grade level rep) – was unable to attend the meeting, but will inform parents of any upcoming needs.

· Carol Smith (10th grade level rep) – Parents are needed to help Friday, Oct. 19th and Sat., Oct. 20th on the hall decorations. Class t-shirts are on sale for $15.00. Any money over the cost of the shirts will go toward homecoming decorations. Leann Wallace is our teacher sponsor.

· Karen Collins (11th grade level rep) – Class officers are asking each Junior to donate $10 toward hallway decorations – money may be given to Clarissa Ridenhour, the treasurer, or Mrs. Jean, our teacher sponsor. Parent and student help is needed from 9:00-4:00 on Friday, Oct. 19th and 9:00 - ? on Sat., Oct. 20th. The Junior Class is responsible for the Spring Formal that is being held on April 19th at the Neches Room on Crockett Street. The theme is “Masquerade.” More info will come later concerning fundraising and decorations.

· Donna Swain (12th grade level rep) – The Project Graduation Committee is working hard and can always use more help. The Powder Puff game will be Monday, Oct. 22. The Senior and Junior girl’s team will play against the Sophomore and Freshman team.

· Amy Montgomery (Booster Club rep) – The Booster Club membership is $30 per family and supports all athletes of Legacy. The Booster Club has donated $8,000 to all sports (by taking requests from coaches and allotting money for their needs). They put on the sports banquets (1 in the Fall and 1 in the Spring). They need help on Oct. 25th, the night of the Bonfire and Pep Rally. They will sell hamburgers, potato salad, etc., and they would like to encourage everyone to support this effort. In addition to preparing the sports program to be given out at games, they are responsible for the concession stand and they could always use help with that. Spirit shirts are available, also.

At the end of the meeting, a general discussion was held about Homecoming activities. It was suggested that all students donate $10 to help defray the cost of the hall decorations. Also, parents are greatly encouraged to help with putting up the decorations on Oct. 19th and Oct. 20th.

Our next Friends of Legacy meeting is Nov. 13th. We hope to see you there!

Mrs. Maxey sent a letter requesting extra volunteer help from parents for Homecoming activities. Please look over the request below and see if you can help in any way.

Parent Volunteers

Homecoming Week

Oct. 22-28

Dear Parents,

I am looking for some great men and women to give me a hand with the homecoming festivities during the week of Oct. 19-28. If you could volunteer in one or more categories, I would greatly appreciate all hands.

Needs:

Dads for security (parking lot duty)—the night of the banquet and dance from 8:30-12 midnight. (Friday, Oct. 27)

Clean up Crew on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 28) at 2:30 in the gym. We will break down set pieces and tables and chairs. It will probably only take an hour or hour and a half. It always goes down faster than it goes up.

If you can help with decorating on Friday (Oct. 26) between 9 and 3:00 and Saturday (Oct. 27) between 8 and 12 noon, that would be awesome.

I would like to have a parent sign students out after the Banquet and as they leave the Dance.

I need parents with helium tanks and air compressors to help blow up about 300 balloons on Saturday (Oct. 27) morning between 8 and 12 noon. We will blow some up with helium and some with just air.

The students would also like to have parent waiters again. You would need to wear black pants and a white shirt. This would be the night of the banquet (Sat., Oct. 27). I would ask you to eat before and be there no later than 6:45. You would be serving drinks and desserts to the students.

I could use some help with Messy Games and Relays on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 1:30. I need help setting up and possibly with the judging and then the clean up.

I need a Mom to pick up tablecloths from Moncla’s on Friday morning, Oct. 26 by 10 a.m. and bring them to school. I will also need someone to pick up tablecloths on Mon. morning and bring them back to Moncla’s.

I appreciate all your help. If you have already called me, just e-mail me now and let me know specifically what you would like to do.
