The second "Ministry Day" for Legacy was held on April 17th.
Students went out by advisory into the community with each advisory assigned to a specific ministry opportunity. |
7th grade boys: Harvest for Lost Souls.
The seventh grade boys, in collaboration with Harvest for Lost Souls church, assisted with spring cleaning and moving of furniture for the Miracle Deliverance church on Wall Street after the death of their pastor.
7th grade girls: Hospital ICU waiting rooms.

8th grade boys: Westgate Baptist.

8th grade girls: Hope Center Women's Resource Clinic.
Eighth grade girls advisory worked all morning at the hope crisis pregnancy center. We had twelve workers and split them into three groups:
-
One group decorated baby bottles to be distributed into area churches so that members could fill them up with loose change = fund raiser.
-
The second group sorted through baby clothes, put them into size categories and hung them up – organization.
-
The third group prepared “positive” bags, a small gift from the center, which every girl/woman receives upon getting a ‘positive’ back from a pregnancy test = encouragement.
9th grade boys: Village Creek State Park.

9th grade girls: Shorkey Center and Some Other Place. In order to help the Shorkey Center prepare for their annual Rubber Ducky Derby, some of Legacy's 9th grade girls labeled and bagged 5800 rubber ducks.
The other 9th grade girls spent their Ministry Day at Some Other Place where girls worked in the kitchen preparing food, sorted donated clothing, shredded files, and prepared candy for distribution.

10th grade boys:
Trash Pick up on Tram Road. Also moved school equipment.
10th grade girls: Girls Haven. The 10th grade girls made blankets for the residents of Girls Haven and delivered them.

11th grade boys and girls: Southeast Texas Food Bank.
26 members of the junior class went to Southeast Texas Food Bank to help with their Backpack Program.
Summary of the program: The Food Bank each week prepares 800 plastic grocery bags of food items, delivers them to outlying elementary schools in Hardin County (and 2 other counties that I can’t remember). The counselor at each school receives the bags, and designated disadvantaged students come to their office on Friday, the counselor puts a grocery bag in a backpack, the child takes it home as “food for the weekend,” brings the backpack back to the counselor on Monday, and on Friday they repeat.
Each week they need 800 grocery bags stuffed. We stuffed 1600 bags, enough for 2 weeks, in the 3 hours we were there. They depend on volunteer groups to do this; if a church, school, or civic group doesn’t come in, they email their volunteer force and have people come in to fill the bags.

12th grade boys and girls: Pastor's Brunch at Westgate Baptist
Senior men and women showed off their culinary skills on Ministry Day. Each senior invited an adult who had an influence on them through their high school years to a brunch at Westgate Baptist Church.
Most of the men proved more proficient at bussing the tables while a handful actually helped the Senior women with the cooking. The men appreciated the chance to say “thanks” before they embark on their college journey.
Senior advisory classes had an opportunity to appreciate the special people and youth pastors of our senior class. The senior boy and girl advisories put together a breakfast fit for a king or queen for those honored guest. We had about 15 area youth pastors and others attend. A special thanks to Westgate Baptist for the use their faculties and to Mrs. Burrets and Mrs. Patureau for overseeing the event.
